Lovelock Indians

The Lovelock Indians lived 12 thousand years to 20 thousand years ago. They survived by fishing and hunting ducks. They drew memories of cave dwelling life on rocks throughout southern Nevada. They were one of the first Native Americans in Nevada. Another group after the Lovelock Indians was the Pueblo Indians.

Pueblo Indians
The Pueblo Indians built their settlements along the Virgin and Muddy rivers near Las Vegas. They established a system of irrigation canals and built hive-like homes of sticks and mud. Their culture flourished for almost 500 years!

When the Europeans explored Nevada in the early 1800's, they encountered Washoe, Shoshone, Mohave, and Paiute. These Native Americans often came together to hunt and gather food. In the winter times these wandering tribes often stay in one place. They built their houses of poles covered in reed or grass. Their lives were peaceful. They were a religious and cultural group,

Nevada was the last to get explored throughout the USA! In 1776 people believe that a Spanish man named Francisco Garces' explored the south of Nevada. About 50 years later in the 1820's, British colonies started exploring Nevada more.

Early SettlementIn 1848 as a result of a treaty end in the Mexican War, Americans became acquired to the Nevada region from Mexico. Nevada became part of the territory including Utah, California and the land in parts of 4 other states.
